Situated in the serene and picturesque hills of Sundernagar with a bracing climate, Govt Sr. Sec. Model School, with the motto "LEARN, LEAD, ACHIEVE & SERVE," has always been on its untiring, perpetual march to touch the higher pinnacles of excellence and glory. The pioneer efforts of starting this institution were undertaken by Ms. S. Malik in 1967. A seed was sown, which soon germinated and sprouted in the shape of a mini institution housed in residential quarters. It was named a Junior Model School. Admission to the classes up to middle and higher standards started simultaneously in 1969. In the same year, the school was named a Senior Model School. In March 1971, the first batch of four students appeared in the Matriculation examination conducted by the Punjab School Education Board, and two students were placed on the merit list.
This sapling quickly grew into a fruit-laden tree. Very soon, the school was affiliated with the District and State Sports Wing. Children have been participating regularly in sports at all levels. Girl guides and scout activities were started with full zeal in 1973-74. Hundreds of students graduated to the level of President’s guides. Extracurricular activities, including indoor and outdoor sports, became a regular feature of every academic session.
